About Santa Barbara

Stearns Wharf

Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara County

Stearns Wharf was completed in 1872, when lumberman John P. Stearns built it so that ships could land cargo and passengers at Santa Barbara. It is the oldest working wooden wharf in California. Cars can still drive out onto the planks at the foot of State Street, past restaurants, a small museum of sea life and people fishing off the end.
